5 Website Design Principles to Know This 2019 and Beyond
Gestalt Design Psychology
Gestalt psychology is a specific theory of the brain and mind. It’s main principle? The human eye completely sees objects before perceiving it in individual parts. How does this relate to website design? The user sees the entirety of your website first, before digesting the footer, menu, header and other elements.
This is one of the most crucial principles behind an amazing website design. Visual hierarchy is the order in which our eye perceives what it sees. It’s true that specific parts of your pages are more important compared to the others. Of course, you would want to highlight more of those important elements.
The Fitt’s law refers to the time frame required to move to a specific target area–the function of the target size to the target distance. Basically, the bigger and closer the object is, the easier it is to utilize. Bigger is not always better, though.
According to Hick’s Law, each additional option increases the time frame required in order to make a decision. Surely, you have experienced this many times at restaurants. The bigger the menu, the harder it is to choose a meal. Therefore, to make a better website design, remove all the distracting options.
Rule of Thirds
It’s always an excellent idea to utilize engaging photos in your web design. Visual elements communicates ideas a lot more effectively than text. This is a principle that is often overlooked, but a crucial aspect of custom web design.
A photo must be divided 9 equal parts, by 2 equally spaced vertical lines and 2 equally spaced horizontal lines. Essential compositional website elements must be placed along these lines or at their own intersections.
